The Government has announced that there will be an additional Bank Holiday on Monday 8 May 2023 following the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on Saturday 6 May.
This bank holiday will operate in the same way as any other, with usual terms and conditions of employment applied. This bank holiday will apply throughout the Council, except for essential, emergency services and/or services that are of a particular benefit to the public at this time. It is recognised that maintaining services may be challenging, as employees may wish to join the nation in celebrating the coronation and participate in national and local events. Managers are therefore being asked to seek to strike a balance between maintaining services where appropriate, whilst enabling staff to have time off, where possible.
